If you have ever been to Europe you are probably familiar with the budget airline Ryanair. We have used them many times especially when we fly out of Dublin. Ryanair has partnered with Air Europa to offer these flights and other flights to the US and Latin America.
The CEO, Michael O’Leary, announced the news and said that this is a step towards Ryanair becoming the “Amazon of travel”. O’Leary also claimed his airline is now discussing similar partnerships with other carriers. The flights will depart from Madrid and call on 20 destinations across the Americas. Included will be Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico and the USA.
According to the airline, later this year they will launch the second phase of the Air Europa partnership which will allow Ryanair customers to connect onto Air Europa long-haul flights through Madrid. Currently Ryanair offers flight from Madrid to many European cities. TIP: Be careful when booking flights with budget airlines. Many fly into satellite airports such as Ryanair in Paris. The airport is actually in Beauvais France. Ryanair does offer bus service from Paris. An express coach service is operated between Beauvais airport and the Porte Maillot (Congress center) in the west of Paris. Bus leaves 20 to 25 minutes after flight arrivals from Beauvais and 3h before flight departure time from Paris. It is recommended to leave from Paris 3 hours before your flight as the usual transfer time is around 1 hour but may vary a lot depending on traffic conditions.
Now with the technicalities out of the way, what does this mean for US travelers? Ryanair in partnership with Air Europa is currently servicing 3 major US cities. According to their website www.ryanair.com these are Boston, Miami, and New York JFK.
Boston starts June 16, 2017 and ends September 8, 2017. Only available Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays
Miami starts today May 25, 2017 and ends May 2018. All days available
New York JFK starts May 26, 2017 and ends Jan 8, 2017. All days available in June, July, August, and September. October no Thursdays. November no Tuesdays or Thursdays. All days available in December.
The flight prices are quoted in Euro and seem to be reasonable. You do get 2 – 10K carry on bags and 1- 23K checked bag as part of the quoted price. (10K is about 22 pounds and 23K is about 50 pounds) Normally with Ryanair flight purchases luggage is extra.
They do offer flight segment pricing, which means you don’t have to buy a round trip ticket to get a great price. Many large airlines charge you almost as much for a one way as a round trip.
We have never flown Air Europa so we cannot tell you what type of flight to expect. However it is a direct flight which is always nice when traveling to Europe.
We think this is good news , especially if you live close to one of the 3 cities. We are praying they add Chicago soon.
