We recently flew WOW air from San Francisco to Reykjavik Iceland. After the flight we CANNOT use the word WOW for Wow air. In fact they did not do one thing to WOW us! We won’t be flying WOW again!
We found the flight from San Francisco to Reykjavik for $189.99 US one way and thought WOW! We added a couple carry-ons and a XXL seat which brought our total up to $300.00 US each. Still a pretty good deal or so we thought. A few days before the flight my husband decided he wanted to take some bottles that required checked baggage.
I emailed WOW asking if we could change one carry-on to a checked bag and pay the difference. After over 48 hours of not receiving a response I finally decided to call. We COULD not get credit for the paid carry-on we no longer planned to take with us. We were required to pay full price for a checked bag. We had paid $50 for the carry-on and now we had to pay $70 more to change to a checked bag. Shortly after speaking with an agent I finally received an email response.
When we arrived at the airport it only got worse. We went to bag drop off and were told our checked bag was over by 2 kilos. We explained that we paid for a carry-on that we didn’t even bring. They were firm that they didn’t care how many bags we paid for – the checked bag could NOT exceed 20 kilos. We were forced to remove 2 kilos which is about 4 pounds.
When we got on the plane it only got worse. The XXL seat we paid for at the front of the plane really had no additional leg room, still very small and cramped. We paid over $60US each for these seats that they considered XXL. No TV monitors either, they did not offer in flight entertainment during our 8 hour flight. And…. the only free beverages were water, coffee, and tea. No free food either. Thank God we brought our own snacks.
I guess if you are a young student and are planning a long weekend in Reykjavik only needing an overnight bag then WOW might be for you. However if you don’t mind paying a little more and you plan to carry-on or check baggage then WOW is not for you!
My husband is a little over 6 foot. This was our XXL seat.
