Most airlines allow you to add baggage online all the way up until you fly. When purchasing your flight read the small print to be sure it won’t cost you more after the initial purchase of the flight. Spirit is one of these exceptions where baggage prices increase after initial flight booking.
If the airline allows you to add baggage without a fee increase after booking the flight – wait to add your bags. Then a couple days before you fly – assess what baggage is needed and purchase. This will keep you from purchasing the wrong baggage such as carry-on vs. a checked bag. We have been guilty of this in the past. Once you purchase baggage a lot of airlines will not let you change your purchase. This just happened to us on WOW air. I initially purchased two carry-on bags. Then my husband decided he wanted to carry on a bottle of something. I had to pay full price for the checked bag even though I didn’t need one carry-on anymore.
What upset us even more was when we went to check the bag and we were 4 pounds over. We thought we would be fine since we had paid for an additional bag. They did not care that we paid for 3 bags but only brought 2. They made us remove 4 pounds from the checked bag.
